Ethan has saved me numerous times from Garlean soldiers who sought more than mere observation, viewing me as a threat. It seems that rumors circulated among the soldiers back then that an unremarkable, small, and innocent child, namely me, had forged a pact with a voidsent. It's not very typical for a voidsent to form a pact with a child who is incapable to kill and gather souls. They had a valid reason to be afraid of me. But Ethan is unique, not like most other voidsents. He stumbled upon me and genuinely wanted to protect me, rather than using me solely for his own survival.
